Must have components

Just having an Arduino is one thing but what if you want to do something with it?

I have assembled a list of a few components that would be a good idea to have around for your experiments.

All of these can be purchased on-line or from local electronics parts suppliers, sadly in the UK there not a lot of "walk in" electronics shops that cater for the hobbyist or small volume parts supply :(.

If you are in the UK (and possibly in other country) Maplin do stock most of the common parts you might have to ask for them.

I tend to get most of my parts of  CPC UK (massive range) but you do have to order around £10 worth of parts to get free delivery.

Failing that try looking on Amazon or eBay if you know exactly what part you want and do not mind the quality.

*Prototyping gear*

Bread board - Everything connects up to this

Jumper wire - For all the interlinking connections

*Parts*

LED's - Get lots of different colours,
Tri Colour LED's - They look cool and you can have fun mixing colours.
2N3904 NPN Transistors -  Awesome projects with these
Micro Switches - Little press to make switches come in handy
Potentiometer - Get a 10k one
Resistors - Get a good range of values, might be worth getting a kit of them
Servo - A little hobby one will be fine, possibly get a 180 and a 360
Photoresistor / LDR - Light changes the resistance
IR LED & Receiver - You can make a remote control
Tilt Sensor - If you feeling like you need to shake things
7 Segment LED - Common Cathode type!
Capacitor Kit - Get a kit much simpler

*Other stuff*

Multimeter - Very useful not only for fault finding but also for understanding how things work

(I would like to note that I have not been approached by any company listed above, purchase at your own risk)
